Drop.io is for anyone looking for a simple way to send large files across the internet.

With Drop.io, users can upload files to a dedicated URL (an example would be drop.io/1234), which the sites calls a "drop", and then notify anyone that the files are available for download.

Friends, family and coworkers can then download the files, provided they have the password, simply by using the link you send them.

No registration or account setup is needed, and using the site is very easy. It's also a great way for users to avoid the file-size limits, usually around 3-5 MB, imposed on many email accounts.

This isn't just a site for uploading and downloading information, however. There is a blog feature, and users can set up a variety of way to notify friends and family about updates to the drop, including Twitter, SMS, email, RSS and even fax.

There is also a nifty voice-to-file service, simply called Voice. Users can call a phone number and leave a voice message that appears as a MP3 file in the drop.

Users also control the access to the drop - allowing users to view, add and delete the sites content - as well as decide when the access to the site expires.

For the average user, the file offers plenty of storage. Given an average file size of 5MB for a photo, users could upload 20 pictures for free. There is also no limit to the number of "drops" you can create. For anyone who needs more space, the site sells extra storage at the price of $10 (Dh36) for 10GB a year.

The site promotes itself for a variety of services, even including some business uses, but the majority of uses include multimedia files. Firefox users can add a small plug-in that allows them to add anything that can be dragged and dropped to their drop, including links, directly through the browser.
